Saturday Digest: The Good Thing About Africa

By Abel Udoekene

“What is Africa to you?” A young man asked. I gazed upon the rising sun, feel the warm greetings of the morning breeze and tried to recall the wonders of our beautiful Continent.

“Africa is like the sun that shines in the morning, she gives life and light to many, her brightness comfort the downtrodden, her hotness provides both pains and relief and when she is no more, darkness dangles and dance in full swing” I began.

“Africa is like the rain that fell on a Monday morning, her persistence provide water for our crop even when we want it to stop so that we can continue our daily routine, her radiance mirrors our road like a shinning star and the winds that accompany her produce fan that cool our warming mind” I pause.

“What is Africa to you?” The young man asked, he seems not to understand my answer and his patience I presume was not available but I was very ready to appreciate my Africa.

“Africa is like a mother of two Children, She gave birth to Nelson, the son of Mandela, a man who is loved and appreciated by many, and she also gave birth to Robert, the Son of Mugabe, the man whose supposed hilarious quotes kept us smiling all days” I continued

“Africa is the woman I cherish so much, a woman with so many beautiful Children, her glamour produces “Our Omotola of Ekeinde, our Juliet of Ibrahim, and our Nadia of Buari among others”
Her boldness produces the one we know as the Jim of Iyke, Dayo of Okeniyi not forgetting the D that has banj.Etc
Her industrious nature produces our Dangote, our Johann Rupert, our Nassef Sawiris, etc.” I paused

Confused by my openness, he draw closer to appreciate my heart beat. “You are a true son of Africa” he said
My smile awaken his gloomy faces and I started telling him the good thing about Africa.
