Aladja, Ogbe-Ijoh crisis: Okwagbe urges Okowa to intervene

By Simon Adewale

The Esama of Ukepedi Kingdom, Delta Central, Olorogun Okiemute Okwagbe, has urged Governor Ifeanyi  Okowa of Delta State, his deputy, Mr. Kingsley Otuaro and the Delta State Speaker, Monday Igbuya to seek an end the current tension in Aladja, Ogbe-Ijoh.

Okwagbe, a Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, leader who spoke in Ughelli, said there has been tension between the two ethnic groups following the 14 days quit notice given to the Ijaw indigenes by the Urhobo Progress Union, UPU, youth wing over alleged oil thieves and kidnapping of some Urhobo natives.

He applauded the state government’s swift  mediation and urged Governor Okowa to put in place, a formidable mechanism to resolve the boundary demarcation crisis, appealing to both the Urhobo and Ijaw leaders and youths to exercise restraint and not escalate the issues.

The Esama added that he is deeply disturbed over the crisis, because it is only in a peaceful environment that development can take place. He appealed to the people to shun violence and embrace development.
