Anenih: ‘Mr. Fix-it abandoned MKO Abiola,’ Kokori says
Anenih said that Abiola begged former Head of State, Babangida to allow him to be president even if it was just for a day.
Chief Frank Kokori has criticized Peoples Democratic Party chieftain, Tony Anenih for saying late Chief M.K.O Abiola was desperate to be president in 1993.
Anenih wrote, in his newly launched book “My Life and Nigerian Politics,” that Abiola begged former Head of State, Ibrahim Badamasi Babangida (IBB) to allow him to be president even if it was just for a day.
Kokori, a former General Secretary of the National Union of Petroleum and Natural Gas Workers (NUPENG) however accused Anenih of betraying Abiola.
“I read the statement by Anenih and that was correct, even myself, who was a key player then was not told by Abiola. He never told me that he was going to declare himself President,” Kokori told Vanguard on Tuesday, November 29.
“But that does not hide the fact that Anenih as chairman of the defunct Social Democratic Party, SDP, which Abiola belonged to, betrayed Abiola and the June 12 struggle.
“Anenih scuttled June 12 and incapacitated the struggle for the actualisation of Abiola’s mandate. It was natural that Abiola declared himself President because he won the election and had the mandate of Nigerians to be President,” he added.
Anenih also said that Abiola would probably still be alive if he did not attempt to declare himself president.
