AWCON 2016: It’s Nigeria, Cameroon final

Nigeria’s Super Falcons soaked up all the pressure of Bayana Bayana of South Africa to record a 1-0 win to reach the final of the African Women Cup of Nations and will now face host Cameroon on Saturday.
The South Africans came out truly prepared for war but failed to progress to the Africa Women’s Cup of Nations final as Nigeria had to put in everything to contain the pressure.
Nigeria got off to an encouraging start, with England-based forward Asisat Oshoala causing a few problems for the Banyana defence.
Desiree Ellis’ charges did create a chance of their own, as Mabatle went close for the South Africans in the 19th minute.
With the Super Falcons pushing for an opener, Dlamini proved key for Bayana as she produced a fine save to deny Nigeria a goal in the 25th minute.
Banyana did have the ball in the back of the net just before the halftime break, but the effort was flagged offside.
The Nigerians broke the deadlock in the 57th minute courtesy of a fine free-kick from Desire Oparanozie.
South Africa will now face Ghana in the third/fourth play-off on Friday while Nigeria will confront Cameroon in a fourth final in the history of the championship.
