Dangerous goods management group takes off in Nigeria
Dangerous Goods Management (DGM) Group has formally opened for business in Lagos.
The DGM Group, which is known for handling dangerous goods transportation within and outside the country, provides a complete solution for hazardous materials.
It has been operating since 1987 in 35 countries, four of which are in Africa.
“DGM Nigeria guarantees a global range of services based on regulatory knowledge, confidence and practical experience in compliance with dangerous goods regulations, safety standards and customer requirements,” the group said.
Speaking at the occasion, the managing director of DGM Group Ghana, Dapo Omaloday, said the purpose of the event was to create awareness that the Nigerian arm was a member of the global organisation and as such would ensure the standard which the is known for universally. “Dangerous goods (DGs) are articles or substances which can pose a risk to health, safety, property or the environment. Breaking this down, dangerous goods are harmful things that can cause disaster. With the presence of DGM Nigeria, this will be well taken care of,” he added.
Also speaking at the event, Paul Van der Linden from DHL, said explosives have been of concern “but I believe with DGM in Nigeria, the solution is here. DGM has been known for excellent work and that I am sure DGM Nigeria will represent what DGM global stands for.
“DGM Group covers basically the continent, we have clients that cut across the oil and gas sector, pharmaceutical and chemical companies, government agencies to mention but few. DGM also provides training, packing of DGs and consultancy.”
Olumide Oshineye of Nigeria Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA), who was at opening, said DGM Nigerian should work with all regulatory bodies and to be law-abiding.
“We are happy to have DGM Nigeria,” he added.
The event was attended by representatives from most of the regulatory bodies and clients among others.
