Financial sector workers urge FG to attract foreign, local investment

ABUJA— ASSOCIATION of Senior Staff of Banks, Insurance and Financial Institutions, ASSBIFI, has asked the Federal Government to attract local and foreign investments to create jobs, if the nation must must get out of economic recession.

Speaking after her election and inauguration in Abuja, the new president of ASSBIFI, Mrs Oyinkan Olasanoye, spoke of the need for government and  employers in the country to respect the fundamental principles and rights at work to avoid perpetuating precarious employment.

Olasanoye, who is the first woman to be elected President of umbrella body for senior workers in the nation’s financial institutions, also called on the National Assembly to review  labour regulation, in consultation with industrial trade unions and other stakeholders, to provide an opportunity for employers to demonstrate that they respect their social and societal responsibilities.

‘’Above all, all tiers of government must consult trade union movement on all matters relating to economic and social reform,’’ she said.

While pledging to  engender healthy industrial harmony and relationship without compromising the principles and core values of ASSBIFI, she declared: “In the  face of the very enormous challenges posed by our work environment, ASSBIFI, under my leadership, pledges to continue to be a very potent voice for sound corporate governance and accountability.”
