Gov Umahi Presents N127.3bn 2017 Budget To Ebonyi State Assembly
The Ebonyi State Governor, Chief David Umahi yesterday at the State
House of Assembly presented a budget estimate of N127.3 billion to the
State House of Assembly for the 2017 fiscal year.
The appropriation bill, tagged “Budget of Inclusive growth in economic
and poverty reduction in economic recession according to the Governor
set aside N87 billion for capital expenditure, representing 68.43% of
the budget outlay, while N40.1 billion was set aside for recurrent
expenditure, being 31.5 % of the total estimate.
The total estimate of about N127.23 is slightly above that of 2016
budget, which was N101.1b
The economic sector got the lion share of N57.7 billion, which the
governor said would be committed on roads, water, electricity,
agriculture, education, commerce and industrial sectors.
The social sector got a total of N14.3 billion, representing 18.5 % of
the capital budget.
Governor Umahi stated that the internally generated revenue for 2017
budget is targeted at N13b which is made up of N5b from agricultural
products and N8b from other revenue sources.

inspired to complete the various sectors catalogued in the budget to
ensure that growth level of the economy of the state come to an

Under the health sector, Governor Umahi stated that in a bid to ensure
and efficient healthcare delivery service, the 2017 budget would
ensure the actualization of modernization and ten equipment of more
hospitals, procurement of mobile clinics that will operate in the
rural areas and completion of all construction works at general
He said in 2017 budget, more 100km of roads would be built within the
metropolis of Abakaliki as well complete the installation of street
lights as well as complete the 15km of asphalted roads in the 13 local
government areas of the state.
The governor noted also that 50km of federal roads within the state
would be constructed so as to facilitate the effective exploitation of
natural resources and evacuation of agricultural produce beyond the

Francis Nwifuru said the legislature is very satisfied with fiscal
prudence in the implementation of the outgoing fiscal year.

difficult to pay salaries”
Mr. Nwofuru said the legislature has been at the fore front for the
discharge of check and balancing and promised that the house is ready
to complete all constitutional duties including oversight and
conducting of public hearings in their duties.
He pleaded with the governor to increase the level of funding to the
state House of Assembly, noting that it would help the house to
perform its duties without any inhibition to the benefit of the people
of the state.
