Niger Delta pirates, kidnappers smashed by Nigerian soldiers: 3 killed

– As a result of a shootout between Nigerian soldiers and sea pirates and kidnappers three criminals were killed

– The troops also managed to arrest one of the offenders and recover weaponry and ammunition

Three suspected kidnappers were killed during a fight between the troops from Operation Delta Safe, the Nigeria military task force in the Niger Delta, and suspected sea pirates and kidnappers.

The notorious gang, which had been terrorizing the waterways of Bayelsa and Rivers states, was taken aback on their way to an opeartion on Azikiwe road in Port-Harcourt this week.

The report on the shootout reads in part:“The gang members, on sighting the IRT Teams, opened fire and engaged the operatives.

Hence, three of the hoodlums were fatally wounded while one James Peter, a 30-year-old from Southern Ijaw, was arrested alive.”

One more gang member, James Peters, from Southern Ijaw, was arrested. He is currently cooperating with security agencies, naming other members and the location of their weapons.

The troops recovered one General Purpose Machine Gun (GPMG) with a chain of bullets, one AK47 rifle with two fully loaded magazines.

Recall that earlier this week the Lagos state House of Assembly have approved death sentence for kidnappers.
