Schools Battle For Adegbile Memorial Football Tourney In Kaduna
Twenty-eight secondary schools are participating in the Kaduna Centre of the 2016 edition of the Late Dr. Philip Adegbile Memorial Inter Secondary Schools Football Championship, at the Ahmadu Bello Stadium, Kaduna.
This was disclosed to LEADERSHIP Sports by the Secretary of the Youth Sports Federation of Nigeria (YSFON), Kaduna State Chapter, Malam Abdulrazak Usman.
According to him, the schools are drawn from three zones in Kaduna metropolis; Sabon Tasha, Kaduna and Rigachikun. Usman said that the competition was organized by YSFON in collaboration with the family of late Adegbile, in line with the Federal Government’s policy thrust of grassroots sports development.
The YSFON scribe said the competition was organized to honour the late Adegbile as a result of his tremendous contributions to the development of sports during his life time.
“We are doing this to immortalize late Adegbile because of his contributions to sports development. We want others to emulate him, knowing that even when they have passed on, people will remember their good deeds. YSFON has been at the forefront of organizing sporting competitions for children in and out of school, with the aim of discovering talented sportsmen that would soon make Nigeria proud,” he said.
Grays International College, Kaduna is reviving the championship after long years of absence.
