105 lawyers in legal fireworks at Edo Election Petitions Tribunal
Jethro Ibileke/Benin Legal fireworks began on Thursday at the Edo State Election Petition Tribunal, at the pre-hearing of petitions filled by the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and its candidate in the September 28 gubernatorial election in the State, Pastor Osagie Ize-Iyamu, over the declaration of Governor Godwin Obaseki as winner of the election by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC). No fewer than 105 laywers, mostly Senior Advocates, were assembled by the Petitioners (PDP and Ize-Iyamu) and the 1st, 2nd and 3rd Respondents (INEC, Governor Obaseki and the APC) for the petition. At the pre-hearing sitting, Adebayo Adelodun (SAN), led 60 other lawyers for the Petitioners, Adeniyi Akintola and Ken Mozia led 35 other lawyers for the APC and Godwin Obaseki, while Oyenchi Ikpeazu, SAN, led six other lawyers for the 1st Respondent, INEC.
