The Senate Committee on Ethics, Privileges and Public Petition has refuted reports that it abandoned its oversight function to the office of Code of Conduct Bureau (CCB) at the national secretariat complex, Insisting that the Chairman of the bureau, Mr Sam Saba breached protocol and they found it totally disrespectful.

Wondering what the motive of CCB Chair was for “making such drama”, the committee said its members did not find it tasking to climb up to the 5th floor for the proposed interface but that protocol required that the committee be received at the entrance by the chairman as is the norm.

This was made known in a release signed by the Committee Chairman, Senator Jeremiah Useni un behalf of the committee even as he stated that the committee found disrespectful as Senators were on their constitutional functions.

Useni said: “The members of the Committee didn’t find it any tasking to climb up to the 5th floor where the CCB’s office is located as some of them are retired and Gallant military men like senator JT Useni who is a retired Lt.Gen. in the Nigerian Army. The Committee rather found it very disrespectful on the side of the CCB Chairman who by Protocol suppose to have waited for the Committee downstairs to receive and usher them in, because that has been the tradition, even if it a minister that is the normal way, to received and ushered the Committee members in.

“Therefore, the CCB Chairman, Mr Sam Saba, disrespect and refuses to honour the Senate Committee and that act of disrespect by the CCB Chairman is extended to the entire senate of the federal Republic of Nigeria by breaching Protocol and refused to honour distinguished senators who were on their constitutional duty carrying out an oversight function.

“We don’t know the motive of the CCB Chairman by making such Drama.”
