Snapchat’s Dancing Hotdog Has Been Watched 1,5 Billion Times [Video]

We take a break from the Trump Show, to delve into something equally as rewarding – a dancing hotdog. This particular hotdog has enjoyed more than one and a half billion views.

God, these are incredible times we live in.

An article on USA Today kicks off the dancing hotdog coverage with an important question:

What Is Going On?

The hot dog is among several selfie filters available on Snapchat. You access them by pointing your phone’s front-facing camera, then holding down the screen until a series of icons appear along the bottom. Some are special selfie filters, such as the popular puppy.

Others like the hot dog filter require you to use the rear-facing camera. In this case, the hot dog will appear in the real world, even interacting with real-life objects. For example, if I held out my hand where the hot dog appears, it would stick to my hand.

Let’s check out some videos of the dancing hotdog being used in actual real-world scenarios.

Isn’t that fantastic.

Let’s check out one more:

Shame. That guy went a bit too far. He should try the car seat costume game, he’d be really good at it.

Whilst fun and adorable, it’s not enough distraction for one Evan Spiegel – according to Mashable:

Unfortunately for Snap, the intense fixation on the mega-meme didn’t count for much in the grand scheme of its second-ever Wall Street earnings report on Thursday. There isn’t exactly a space for the stat on a balance sheet.

That didn’t stop CEO Evan Spiegel from boasting to investors about the weenie’s pioneering achievements.

“Our dancing hot dog is most likely the world’s first augmented reality superstar,” Spiegel said in the call.

The pork partier did serve as a nice sideshow distraction from the gobs of money Snapchat managed to lose in the past quarter—enough to buy more than 100 million real hot dogs, as one Gizmodo reporter pointed out.
