Apapa Customs records N32.1bn

By Udeme Clement

The Nigeria Customs Service, NCS, Apapa Command has realised about N32.1billion in the month of August, 2017, notwithstanding low economic activities, traffic gridlock within Apapa axis and forex instability hindering business transactions in the maritime sector of the economy.

The Public Relations Officer of the Command, Ijeoma Nwala, made this known in a chat with Sunday Vanguard, saying that the current Customs Area Controller, CAC, of the Command, Comptroller  Musa Jibril is supervising the activities of the Command in full compliance with the new Executive Order of the Federal Government, on ease of doing business in the port.

According to her,  “The Apapa Customs Command is maintaining its lead in maximum revenue generation among other Commands in the country.  For example, apart from the revenue realised in August 2017, the Command in its half year records made N165.7billion, which represents 49.06 percent collection on target for the year.”

She added, “The Command also maintains a good working synergy with other government agencies operating within the port. For instance, the CAC initiated a forum for Heads of security agencies, and the meeting was called to enhance greater collaboration in line with the ease of doing business mandate. It was put in place for all agencies working in the ports to have a common interface, just like a one-stop-shop platform for seamless cargo clearing procedures and maximum security for the port.”
