Ortom Fres SEMA Boss Five Days After Camp Closure

Benue State Governor, Samuel Ortom Friday suspended the Executive Secretary of the State Emergency Management Agency, SEMA, Mr Boniface Ortese.

Mr. Ortese was suspended barely five days after the main camp housing over 4,500 victims of the flood disaster at the Makurdi Ultra Modern International Market was closed down on Monday 9th October 2017.

The Special Adviser to the Governor on Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, Mr. Titus Zam is now to oversee activities of the agency.

LEADERSHIP gathered that the governor is no longer happy with the former SEMA boss due to his high handedness in handling affairs in the camp, especially his alleged continuous tuning battles with the Deputy Governor, Engr. Benson Abounu who is chairman of the flood management committee.

When contacted, the embattled SEMA boss who declined comments said remorsefully that “No comment yet”, but Chief Press Secretary to the governor, Mr. Terver Akase said he was suspended “over insubordination”.

LEADERSHIP observed that Mr. Zam who is now overseeing activities at the camp yesterday started the disbursement of N5000 to the IDP’s as transport to enable them go back to their homes.

It could be recalled that the First camp manager at the Makurdi Ultra Modern International Market, Mr. James Iorhuna was also sacked in a similar circumstances.

Engr. Abounu who confirmed the camp manager’s sack explained that he was relieved of his appointment for not following his instructions.
