BREAKING: ANC Delivers Final Blow To Zuma

After the ANC’s national executive committee (NEC) announced on Tuesday that it was recalling Jacob Zuma, following Monday’s “special meeting”, Zuma was supposed to voluntarily step down.

You know, do the country a solid and get out while we were all still on somewhat amicable terms.

But he hasn’t. At least not yet.

The deadline given by the NEC was for today and, last night, a time was set for Zuma to address the nation for 10AM this morning.

That soon passed, however, but now the ANC parliamentary caucus has come out swinging.

They have just announced that after another meeting this morning, they have “agreed to table a motion of no confidence against President Jacob Zuma on Thursday,” reports Business Live.

To avoid that embarrassment, Zuma has until the end of today to resign.

Yup, resign today or be ousted tomorrow:

ANC treasurer-general Paul Mashatile said National Assembly speaker Baleka Mbete will schedule the EFF’s motion of no confidence for Thursday afternoon. The motion would then be amended by the ANC from the floor.

This means that if Chief Justice Mogoeng Mogoeng “is available”, SA could have a new state president by the end of Thursday, Mashatile told a media conference in Parliament.

The party’s chief whip Jackson Mthembu added that the ANC hoped to elect party leader Cyril Ramaphosa as president of the country on Thursday, after the no-confidence vote, or on Friday.

Earlier on Wednesday the EFF abandoned its plans to take the matter of a motion of no confidence in President Jacob Zuma to court.

The EFF had tabled a motion of no confidence‚ which was scheduled for February 22, but had wanted the proposal to be brought before the National Assembly sooner.

This indicated that an agreement had been struck with the ANC to support a single motion of no confidence against Zuma.

Let’s just hope the raid on the Gupta’s compound in Saxonwold doesn’t overshadow this event, and that not everyone decides to turn state witness.
