Here’s how your habit is affecting your health.

Habits is anything you love doing regularly and tends to occur subconsciously. They are mostly compulsory because it’s automatic, they are part of you, sometimes you may not be aware of it but your habits can have a great impact in your ability to live a healthy lifestyle.

The American journal of psychology defines habits as a more or less fixed way of thinking, willing or feeling acquired through previous repetition of a mental experience.

Your habit controls your life, defines your relationship and contribute 100% to your personality. Habits are hard and easy to break depending on your behavioral pattern.

Here are some habits and how they affect your health.

  1. Sitting too much

Spending too much time in your couch watching TV is very detrimental to your health, because the less physical activity you’re getting, increases your odds of being overweight and developing type 2 diabetes. It also increases your risk of heart attack and stroke.

Solution: Walk around periodically and, if you’re at work, standing up to talk on the phone can also help.

  1. Drinking (too much) alcohol

A little alcohol is good for your body but excess alcohol is not good for your health. Excess alcohol put you at higher risk for liver damage, various cancers including those of the liver and mouth and even memory loss.

Solution: Limit your intake of alcohol.

  1. Skipping breakfast

Breakfast is your most important meal of the day. Skipping it can have serious effect on your blood sugar level and energy. A little food in the morning fuels your metabolism and warm up your energy level. Skipping it, keep the metabolism low which may result in sluggishness and weight gain.

Solution: Begin your day the right way with a breakfast.

  1. Smoking or living with a smoker

Even if you don’t smoke, the effect of secondhand smoke is equally as dangerous as smoking. Smoking promotes blood clots, which can block blood flow to the heart, and contributes to plaque buildup in the arteries.

  1. Snacking nonstop.

Some people are always in the habit of snacking even when they are not hungry. If it’s junk foods that you snack on, you are flooding your system with unhealthy ingredients which can lead to heart disease, diabetes and other serious complications.

Solution: Stop buying snacks if you want to reduce snacking. Have a snacking routine and stick with it.


  1. Snoring

Snoring is not just a disturbance but it could be a sign of obstructive sleep apnea. This disorder can jack up blood pressure and leave the victim with the risk of heart attack.

Solution: if you snore and often wake up feeling tired consult a doctor

  1. Self-medication

Some people engage in self-medication and drug abuse thus they overlooked so many things. Self-medication can cause you your life, avoid it.

Solution: Always consult your doctor if you have any strange symptoms in your body.

  1. Holding on to anger and stress

Holding on to anger and stress releases a cascade of stress hormones that increase your blood pressure and blood sugar, lower immunity, slow digestion, and make you feel downright mean.

Solution: Learn to control your anger and manage stress.
