Why bad leaders last four years in office – Buhari

President Muhammadu Buhari has explained that the constitutional provisions that make it mandatory for an elected President to remain in office four years, makes it possible for bad leaders to remain in office, since their first four years is guaranteed by the Constitution.

The President stated this while hosting selected artists and entertainers in the Nollywood industry.

The President’s comment is seen as a subtle response to the altercations and threats of impeachment which arose from frictions between the executive and the legislature.

The lawmakers had, during the week, handed down a 12-point demands which they insist must be implemented by the President, failing which they will invoke “the Constitutional Powers of the Parliament”.

The President said his administration was however working hard to restore the country back on the path of economic prosperity. He added that “no matter how bad a leader is, the Constitution guarantee him four years”

According to him, “No matter how good you are, you don’t have more than two terms and no matter how bad you are, the Constitution still guarantee you your first term.”

” So, this generosity of the constitution I respect very much”

The President had since the commencement of the Muslim Ramadan fast, hosted various groups to breakfast while it was the turn of the Nigerian Artistes and Youth organisations to hold theirs at the Presidential Villa, Abuja, last night

He however also declared that as a result of its provisions, the Nigerian constitution had provided him the opportunity to work diligently towards uplifting the quality of life of all Nigerians irrespective of their socio-political backgrounds.

administration would continue to implement policies and programmes aimed at creating enabling environment for the youth to progress in different human endeavours.

“We are trying very hard to normalize situation in the country for you. I’m very pleased with the position of our constitution.

The President continued saying that this provisions gives him  ” opportunity to round up having been a governor, minister, head of state in uniform and then going to the Supreme Court three times to complain about my being rigged out,’’

Buhari while also going philosophical, attributed his being in office as President to “God” and “technology”, which was deployed by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) in the 2015 general election.

According to him, “God brought us here but technology assisted us in being where we are today”.

The President while commending the artists for doing a good job in promoting Nigeria’s rich cultural values and image, also urged them to inculcate education into their activities “at all levels to improve yourselves and contribute to the betterment of your respective communities.’’

He called on the electorates and the youth to obtain the Permanent Voter Card (PVC) to enable vote during the 2019 general elections.

“I will continue to dedicate my time to make sure that Nigerians are enlightened on the importance of voter education because this is vital for good governance.

Veteran Nollywood actor and producer, Kunle Afolayon, commended the President and the APC led  administration for its concern for the well beings of all Nigerians through the implementation of various social intervention programmes in the country.

This is even as he promised that the Nigerian Artistes would continue to mobilise support for the Buhari administration to allow it achieve its programm.
