Al-Makura Procures N350m Equipment From Singapore For Technical Education

Nasarawa state governor, Umaru Tanko Al-Makura has stated that the state government has taken delivery of skill acquisition materials worth N350 million from Singapore in an effort to boost technical education in the state.

The governor stated this while addressing newsmen shortly after inspecting facilities and structures at Government Technical College, Assakio, in Lafia local government area on Sunday.

He disclosed that government has already received 28 containers, pact with modern skill acquisition equipments that would be use to train the students of technical and vocational institutions in the state.

Al-Makura added that as part of measures to ensure the full utilization of the equipment, the state government has concluded arrangements to bring experts from Singapore in less than a month who will train the teachers on various skills acquisition.

Al-Makura however pledged his administration’s commitment to provide technical schools across the state with all the necessary equipments that would enable them compete favourably globally and to as well produce made in Nigeria goods that will stop Nigerians from patronizing foreign material.

According to him: “Very soon we are going to receive the Singaporean experts that will come and stay here in Assakio to put the buildings up, install the equipment, train the trainers”.

He said most of the teachers from the technical section will be given a kind of refresher course for about three months to upgrade them on the new technology.

Almakura said that the equipment will be distributed to the five technical schools across the state as part of measures to create employment and encourage patronage of made in Nigeria goods.

“The essence of this is that we are giving holistic approach to technical education, so that every student that go through the system will have both the practical and theoretical knowledge to live on their own, our target is to make the state a centre of artisans for Nigerians”, Al-Makura said.
