Ambode Tasks Nigerians On Fight Against Corruption

The Lagos State Governor, Mr. Akinwunmi Ambode has called on all Nigerians to join hands with President Muhammadu Buhari in the fight against corruption in Nigeria .

Ambode who made the call at the Lagos Island Club Public Interest Symposium themed: “How to Fight and Win Corruption: Challenges & Prospects” noted that the fight against corruption must be a collective effort of the government and civil society.

According to the governor who was represented by the chairman of the Lagos State Universal Basic Education Board, Dr. Ganiyu Oluremi Sopeyin institutional analysis of corruption indicates where the remedies lie, adding that greater transparency, accountability and merit-based human resource management in public administration are principles that will make it possible to curb corruption if implemented.

“It is important that our institutions are strengthened to sustain the capacity to identify acts of corruption and ensure that people who indulge in or benefit from such acts are made to face the wrath of the law.

“It is also very important that we, who bear the consequences of corruption, take a firm position against it. We must demand accountability, transparency and probity from those we have given the responsibility to manage our common wealth.”

Ambode stressed that all Nigerians must play their roles as expected, genuinely and patriotically, if the country must join the league of developed countries that are committed to the socio economic wellbeing of their citizenry.

He emphasized that Nigerians need to do more in terms of sacrifice which would help the nation. on the path of corrupt free society and sustainable development.
