CAF CL: Enyimba Progress Despite Loss To Vital’O

Nigerian champions, Enyimba, are through to the next round of the Caf Champions League on 6-3 aggregate in spite of losing 1-2 on the day at Vital’O yesterday.

Ikechukwu Ibenegbu opened scoring in the game before Vital’O struck twice through Shashiri Nahimana and Laudit Mavugo to win the tie on the day.

The Peoples Elephant were always favourites to progress into the second round of Africa’s premier club competition after winning the first leg 5-1 in Port Harcourt just less than a week ago.

Enyimba head coach, Paul Aigbogun, named an unchanged side that were rampant in Port Harcourt sticking to Mfon Udoh and Stephen Chukwude, who got two goals each in the reverse game.

Hussein Shaban and Nahimana made attempts to score for the Burundian club in the early minutes but missed.

On 28 minutes, Ibenegbu headed away Joseph Osadiaye’s cross to give the two-time African champions the lead.

Enyimba’s lead lasted just two minutes when Nahimana volleyed into the roof to level score.

Twenty minutes into the restart, Enyimba conceded. Mavugo tapped in simple fashion to give Vital’O the lead.
