Cambodia, Japan Exchange Views On Korean Peninsula Issue

Cambodian Foreign Minister, Hor Namhong, and visiting Japanese Parliamentary Vice-Minister for Foreign Affairs, Masakazu Hamachi, on Monday in Phnon Penh exchanged views on the Korean Peninsula nuclear issue.

Namhong said Cambodia was concerned over the recent nuclear and missile tests conducted by the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea (DPRK).

He urged the DPRK to avoid any action that could escalate tensions or damage mutual trust in the Korean Peninsula.

Namhong, who is also a Deputy Prime Minister, said Cambodia wished to see the Korean Peninsula nuclear issue resolved through peaceful negotiations without any use of force or threat.

He also called upon the DPRK to comply with all relevant UN Security Council resolutions and its international obligation and commitment to the denuclearisation of the Korean Peninsula. (Reuters/NAN)
