Residents of Uwani, Ugwu Umuakashi in Nsukka Local Council of Enugu State were at the weekend thrown into mourning following the recovery of two corpses from a well located inside a paint factory in the area.

It was gathered that the two corpses were that of the owner of the factory, identified as Samuel Ezema and a plumber, whose name was given as Emmanuel.

Police sources said yesterday that a pumping machine, which supplies water at the factory had broken down, leading to the hiring of Ezema to carry out repair works on it. It was further gathered that the two men had been electrocuted in the process of carrying out the repairs.

Enugu State Police Public Relations Officer, Ebere Amaraizu, who confirmed the story, said the owner of the factory had actually “gone into the well to assist the technician with the repair work on the faulty sumo”, adding that they were “electrocuted by a faulty electrical wiring.”

He said the two bodies had been recovered and deposited in the morgue for autopsy., adding that full-scale investigations have commenced into the unfortunate incident with a view to finding out circumstances surrounding their death.

Meanwhile, members of the Northern Community Enugu, who have lost some of their tricycle operators to unknown assailants, heaved a sigh of relief at the weekend as policemen from the Anti-Kidnapping Base arrested two persons in connection with the incident.

It would be recalled that early February 2016, three tricycle operators were found dead on a piece of land at Ugwuaji, but their tricycles were not found till date. Two weeks ago, the Northern community in Enugu also raised the alarm that another three of its members were missing.

Chief Imam of the Enugu Central mosque, Owerri Road, Alhaji Rukalmeni Saidi, was full of praises to God Almighty and the state government and security agencies for the breakthrough.

“The community was becoming worried over the disappearance of its members resulting in suspicion of the hostility of the host community until the police arrested two of the murderers, who stated how they used to charter commercial tricycles to lonely areas, killed them and take their tricycles to Anambra State to sell,” he said.
