Hoodlums Smash Vehicle Conveying Journalists, As Peterside, Others Vote

Windscreen of a vehicle conveying journalists covering the National and State Assembly rerun election, was today smashed by hoodlums, believed to be supporters of one of the political parties at Koroma-Tai community in Tai local government area of Rivers State.

This is as another set of journalists were barred from gaining access to Go-Round Unit, Ward 4, Omoku in Ogba/Egbema/Ndoni local government area of the state.

It was gathered that the vehicle that had its windscreen smashed was conveying journalists from mainly state government owned media outfits, while those barred from gaining access to the polling unit at Omoku were journalists mainly from privately owned media outfits.

Meanwhile, former chairman of Khana local government area of the state, and agent of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Chief Gregory Nwidam, has been arrested by the Nigerian Army.

Although, there are reports of late arrival of materials in polling units in some parts of the state, accreditation and voting are going on simultaneously in several parts of the state.

Already, the state deputy governor, Dr. Ipalibo Harry-Banigo, and leader of the defunct Niger Delta Peoples Volunteer Force (NDPVF), Alhaji Mujahid Dokubo-Asari, have voted in various polling units at Obuama community in Degema local government area of the state.

Also, the governorship candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the 2016 election in the state and director-general of the Nigerian Maritime Administration and Safety Agency (NIMASA), Dr. Dakuku Adol Peterside, has voted in his unit at Opobo Town, headquarters of Opobo/Nkoro local government area of the state.
