Kano crisis: For supporting former governor Kwankwaso, read what lawmakers did to their colleague

The political rift between the Kano state governor, Abdullahi Umar Ganduje, and his predecessor Senator Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso has claimed its first casualty after members of the House of Assembly impeached the chief whip of the House, Zubairu Mahmud, over his loyalty to the former governor.

Vanguard reports that the impeachment which was carried out on Thursday, March 17 was followed by a unanimously a vote of confidence passed on Governor Abdullahi Umar Ganduje by thirty four (34) out of the 39 members of the House.

The 34 lawmakers under the leadership of the speaker, Kabiru Alhassan Rurum also reaffirmed their support to the administration of President Muhammad Buhari and Governor Abdullahi Umar Ganduje of Kano state.

The Assembly thereafter replaced the former chief whip, Zubairu Mahmud from Madobi constituency with Labaran Madari form Warawa constituency.

However, seven other members of the Assembly believed to be loyal to Senator Kwankwaso were absent from the sitting on Thursday.

Recall that on Tuesday March 15, at least 44 Kano state legislators on Tuesday, March 15, angrily removed their symbolic red caps, as a symbol of their support to the incumbent governor, Abdullahi Ganduje, who recently fell out with his predecessor, Senator Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso.

The mild drama occurred when the House members paid a solidarity visit to Governor Abdullahi Umar Ganduje, at the state government House.

Led by the Speaker Kabiru Alhassan Rurum, the lawmakers decided to publicly show their support to Ganduje, as they wore different attires and caps, a departure from the dominant red cap, an identity of the Kwankwasiyya movement, the political slogan of the former governor.
