Lawless Fulani Herdsmen Take Over ‘Grassless BRT Lane’ In Lagos

The Fulani Herdsmen might have picked Africa’s largest city, Lagos as its next breeding ground for monumental unlawful activities, even as the Nation seems to be helplessly enmeshed in the incessant clashes and killings in several rural and semi urban areas by the marauders.

Only last week, several cattle and their herdsmen were spotted walking freely through the Bus Rapid Transport, BRT lane along Ikorodu road, constituting traffic hazards to motorists, BRT buses and other road users.

It was believed that the timely intervention of the Kick Against Indiscipline, KAI officials saved the situation, however, members of the House of Assembly have swiftly condemned the act and are calling for a drastic action to be taken to contain the unruly herdsmen.

In a motion moved by the Majority leader Sanai Agunbiade, he noted that cattle rustlers now take to BRT lane which has no grass to graze for their cattle, between Owode Onirin and Mile 12 at noon.

Agunbiade said “Surprisingly I saw some Fulani herdsmen taking their cattle on Bus Rapid Transit, BRT, lane in Ikorodu around 10pm and someone on internet shared a picture of same act along Mile12/ Owode Onirin also in Ikorodu in broad day.”

He called the attention of the government and relevant agencies, particularly, the BRT monitoring team to do the needful and put an end to the ugly development.

Similarly, Hon. Wahab Jimoh, who represents Apapa Constituency I, said that the Fulani are also grazing at Mobil Road in Apapa and they are also slaughtering cows in unauthorized places in the area.

“There is the need to use the necessary law to penalize them.”

The House unanimously resolved to call on Governor Akinwunmi Ambode to direct necessary agencies to enforce the state traffic law that will checkmate the movement of cows particularly on the BRT lane.

It will be recalled, more than 300 persons were confirmed dead in the Riverine Abugbe community of Agatu, Benue state following several attacks by the marauders who claimed that over 10,000 cattle were allegedly killed by people of the area.
