Nigerian generals are stealing the wages of their army officers – open letter

Editor’s Note:  In an unusual move, several officers of the Nigerian Armed Forces serving with the United Nations in Liberia have anonymously published an open letter to the defence minister Mansur Mohammed Dan Ali and chief of the defence staff (CDS) Abayomi Gabriel Olonisakin to decry the alleged theft of their wages by army generals.

Open Letter To Hon Minister Of Defence And CDS By Nigerian Army Soldiers In Diaspora

Sir, it is a well known fact that of recent, CDS approved our allowances and arrears but till today nothing is at hand.

Sir, we are tired of being deceiving by our army generals despite our strong belief in democracy. We condemn a democratic government that condones corruption, especially in its military.

We urge you not to turn a blind eye to the issue of corruption. This is common practice all over the world.

As professional offers and soldiers, we did not want to go public with details of our frustrations concerning this mission because doing so will tarnish the image of Nigeria as a whole.

However, the persistent neglect of our plight made us to do otherwise.

Sir, we are appealling to you as minister of defence and CDS to as quickly as important to intervene and do the needful in addressing the issues of non – payment of allowances and arrears for six months.

Should this request be ignored, the resultant consequences could only be imagined.

We stand bold to state that we are speaking the minds of officers and soldiers in the United Nations mission in diaspora.

Concerned officers and soldiers of the United Nations mission in Liberia, Sudan and Mali:  We are appealing to all meaningful Nigerians to share it this message until it reach the minister of defence and CDS.

Thank you all.  God bless Nigeria.
