NSE To Induct 88 New Members In Benue

The Nigeria Society of Engineers (NSE) will induct 88 new corporate members in Benue, the state Chairman, Mr Msugh Orkor, has said.
Orkor made this known to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Thursday in Makurdi.

According to him, the occasion is necessary as all qualified members have to be inducted in order to be differentiated from quacks.
He said the occasion was also an avenue for the public to know and identify professionals easily.

Orkor, who harped on the fight against quackery, said that the NSE would also not relent on eliminating quacks from the profession in the state.
“We are working in conjunction with COREN to address these gaps.

“We have, in the process, established a separate unit, the Engineering Regulation and Monitoring (ERM), which is the watch dog of the craftsmen and technicians,” he said.

Orkor expressed sadness over the low patronage of professionals in building.

“Its quite unfortunate anyone acts as an engineer in our society.

“People are ready to pay for materials but not for professional services,” he said.

However, he appealed to residents, who would engage labour in developing their lands, to ensure professionals were involved.

NAN reports that the induction and inauguration of branch executive officers is scheduled for April 13 and 14, respectively.

Other events include the laying of foundation stone for the Engineering Secretariat to be performed by the NSE President, Mr Otis Anyaeji, and Gov. Samuel Ortom of the state. (NAN)
