President of the Senate, Bukola Saraki and the Speaker of the House of Representatives, Yakubu Dogara have expressed shock over the sudden death of a House of Representatives  member representing Nasarawa/Toto Federal Constituency of Nasarawa State, Hon. Musa Baba Onwana, describing him as a fine parliamentarian.

In a statement issued and signed by the special adviser, media and publicity, to the President of the Senate, Yusuph Olaniyonu in Abuja, Saraki  said the nation has lost one of its best hands in parliamentary business.

The Senate President described the late Onwana as a committed and God-fearing man who lived and served humanity with passion, “I was shocked and disheartened at the news of the death of Hon. Musa Baba Onwana. His patriotism and love for his constituents endeared him to many.

“Onwana lived an exemplary life. As a teacher and a lawmaker, he was so disciplined and faithful in his dealings.  We shall sorely miss him.” Saraki said.

The Senate President however urged the Speaker, Yakubu Dogara and all members of the House of Representatives, the Nasarawa State Government, the people of Nasarawa/Toto Federal Constituency and the immediate family of the deceased to take solace in the fact that late Onwana lived a good life. He was a man of good faith.

He prayed for the soul of the departed colleague to find rest in the bosom of the Almighty God and his immediate family and loved ones the fortitude to bear the loss.

On his part, Yakubu Dogara said that he is in a state of shock over the sudden death of Hon. Musa Baba Onwana.

In a statement issued by his spokesman, Mr Turaki Hassan, the Speaker described the late lawmaker as calm, peace loving and a good family man.

“Hon. Onwana was a patriot and a true Nigerian who was always championing the course of his people in the House. We have lost a hardworking, committed and dedicated colleague and our hearts go to his immediate family, constituents, government and people of Nasarawa state,” the statement read.

“I pray that almighty God grants them the fortitude to bear the irreparable loss,” the Speaker also said.

The late Hon. Onwana attended Government Secondary School Karu and graduated in 1979. He then proceeded to Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria, where he obtained a BSc in Business Administration in 1989 and an MBA in 1994.

He was Senior Manager, General Service Logistics/General Services at MTEL between 1997-2010, and a lecturer at the Federal Polytechnic Nasarawa between 1993-1997. Before then, he was a tutor at Government Secondary School, Nasarawa between 1991-1993.

Meanwhile, ahead of the Saturday March 19 re-run election in three senatorial districts, 12 federal constituencies and 22 state constituencies in Rivers state, thugs have been arrested in military uniforms, Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has alleged.
