Rivers rerun: Resident electoral commissioner speaks on security situation

– The resident electoral commissioner for Rivers state has urged the people to maintain peace during the elections

Gov Nyesom Wike has alleged that Davis Ikanya, chairman of APC in Rivers, wrote a letter to DSS in a move to rig the legislative rerun poll.

Ahead of the forthcoming elections in Rivers state on Saturday, March 19, the resident electoral commissioner for the state, Aniedi Ikoiwak has urged the people of Rives state to maintain peace during the elections.

Ikoiwak in an interview with Channels Television’s Sunrise Daily on Wednesday, March 16, also said the sensitive materials would arrive the state on Wednesday, March 16.

On what should be expected from the forthcoming elections in Rivers state on Saturday, March 19. Ikoiwak said: “Some aspects of the elections have been concluded as we are working on a timeline. By today (Wednesday), we are expecting the sensitive material which means we have deployed our non-sensitive materials to the local governments, we have concluded training of SPOs and today, we will conclude training of POs while the training of Collation Officers and Returning Officers would be concluded tomorrow”.

On the security situation in Rivers state presently, he said: “We are appealing to people and we are also talking to security agencies – interrogative committees to deal with the security situation. Ours is to appeal to the security agents to save lives and property of the people”.

In a related development, a major of the Nigerian Army and three other soldiers on Thursday, March 17, in Abonnema in Akuku-Toru local government area of Rivers state.
