#Riversrerun: Security watertight as INEC moves to announce election result

Security has been beefed up in Rivers state as the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) looks set to announce the result of the legislative rerun election in the state.

According to Vanguard, the INEC collation centre in Port Harcourt, the state capital, was water tight on Sunday evening as the officers who had reportedly left, are returning to commence the announcement of the results of Saturday’s federal and state legislative elections in the state.

In the election which has been marred by violence so far, about seven people have been confirmed dead with several others injured as sporadic shootings were reported in some quarters in the state.

And due to the violence recorded in the state as well, six local government areas will not have their results announced because the electoral body canceled the polls in those areas.

As at the time of filing this report, the collation had yet to start in the state as tension soars to an all-time high in the oil-rich region.

Meanwhile, the Rivers state government has alleged that the defeated governorship candidate of the All Progressive Congress (APC) in Rivers state, Dakuku Peterside attempted to assassinate Mr Emeka Woke, the chief of staff to Governor Nyesome Wike.

This is contrary to a report by Sahara reporters that the chief of staff to Nyesome Wike, the state governor, Mr Emeka Woke attempted to Dakuku who is now the Director general of port agency, NIMASA.
