Sea Piracy: ‘Your Criminal Acts Are Threatening Peace In Niger Delta’

Ex-militant leaders from the nine states of the Niger Delta regionyesterday issued a final warning to indigent youths allegedly involvedin the bombing of oil and gas installations, sea piracy and kidnapping to stop threatening the peace of the region or face the consequences.

The ex-militant leaders in the region, in a statement issued at theend of an emergency meeting of the umbrella group known as theLeadership, Peace and Cultural Development Initiative (LPCDI) in theBayelsa State capital , declared those threatening the existing peaceof the region are its enemies.

According to the statement signed by the national president of theLPCDI, Pastor Reuben Wilson, the national secretary, NatureKeighe, national adviser, Ezekiel Akpasibewei and nine other statecoordinators, the ex-militant leaders have resolved not to fold theirhands and watch miscreants destroy the peace and development that willcome to the region.

According to the statement, “that the administration of latePresident Musa Yar’dua gave amnesty to the people of the Niger Delta and now the programme has been extended by President Muhammadu Buhari. And that as the amnesty programme is going on, the people of the regiondo not expect anybody or group to parade themselves as militants because the amnesty programme is to ensure total peace in the region.”
