Nigerian artiste, Bankole Wellington, popularly known as Banky W on Monday, March 21 attended the National Assembly business environment roundtable with business leaders across all sectors.

The role of the session is to provide a platform for the private sector, the legislature and the executive to engage in the promotion of relevant business-friendly policies.

In an interview with , the singer who was invited for the event said that being a stakeholder in the music industry, it is essential to listen to people’s opinions.

However, in his speech on the major ways in which the current economic situations affecting the entertainment industry.

“Well, the current economic situation is affecting every facet of the country. When you talk about entertainment, usually things are tough, entertainment is the first thing to go because people are not in a celebratory mood.

“It is a tough time but we are very optimistic about where Nigeria is going. Despite our ongoing challenges, we are optimistic that things will turn around for the better and that we will be a part of that,” he said.

On diversification of the economy, knowing that the entertainment industry plays a major role in that sector, Banky W said the entertainment has a major plan to help boost that sector, adding that Nollywood is the second highest employer of people.

Banky W added that Small Medium Enterprises (SMEs) are also the major key to solving underemployment in the country and the government should pay attention to that sector.

“I think that SMEs are really the key to solving underemployment. When you look at sectors like banking or oil and gas, there is a cap on what they are capable of doing. There is a finite number of banks and a finite number of employees that they can handle at any time.

“But when you empower people to set up small buisnesses and give them a condusive environment, those buisnesses can hire 10 or 15 people.

“There is no telling where that chain stops. So i think that it is important for the government to really key into SMEs.

“The entertainment sector is a goldmine without saying, its being consumed by not only 200 million Nigerians but African countries and countries around the world.

“Now that the government is starting to grow the entertainment buisiness. Now that the govt is starting to pay attention to different factors, you will see us playing a major part in solving that,” said Banky W
