Tears, wailing as James Ocholi’s corpse arrive his hometown (photos)

– The burial rites of Nigeria’s former minister of state for labour and productivity, late James Ocholi are still ongoing

– The late minister’s corpse and that of his wife, Blessing and son, Joshua arrived his hometown, Abocho, Dekina local government area of Kogi state yesterday, March 16

– The trio died in a ghastly car crash on Sunday, March 6 at the Kaduna-Abuja expressway

It was tears and wailing galore at Abocho town in Dekina local government area of Kogi state as the bodies of the Ocholis arrive the town in a convoy that included three ambulances carrying each body.

”What have we done to deserve this kind of cruelty?” A woman asked rhetorically in Igala language. The atmosphere was enveloped with grief, despair, wailing, mourning, lamentation and sadness.

The loud and deafening wailing of the villagers also affected the children of the late Ocholi as they burst into tears on sighting some of their relatives crying.

They were immediately ushered into the main house by close family members.

A man from the town who simply identified himself as Abah, told that the late Ocholi as just finished rebuilding his country home in Abocho, and has not slept there for more than 10 times.

According to Abah, the people pf the town are suspecting foul play in the death of the Ocholis.

He said: ”It is not ordinary, we believe their death is the handiwork of evil people, especially coming just few months after the death of another Igala man, Prince Abubakar Audu.” observed that various security agencies were stationed around all the routes leading up to the late minister’s country home.

Officials of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), Nigeria Police Force (NPF) and even local vigilantes were sighted maintaining law and order in those areas.


Earlier in the day, the at the Federal High Court, Lokoja, the state capital.

The event was similar to an earlier where members of the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA), eminent judges and members of the Federal Executive Council (FEC) were part of the special court session.

The Ocholis have since been buried today, March 17 at their country home in Abocho town after a lying-in-state programme where people of the town were allowed to say a final goodbye to the trio.
