We inherited N2.6bn liabilty in scholarships from Kwankwaso – Ganduje reveals

– It seems the political battle between Governor Abdullahi Ganduje and his predecessor, Senator Rabiu Kwankwaso is still ongoing

– Ganduje seem to be using every opportunity to expose the inefficiency of Kwankwaso government since their rift became public knowledge

– Ganduje has state that his government will review Kwankwaso’s government scholarship programme because of it’s cost

Governor Ganduje made the revelation on Friday, March 18 after a private meeting with President Muhammadu Buhari.

The governor who was speaking to state house correspondents at the presidential villa, said his government would review its foreign scholarship programme because of the cost.

According to him, his government acquired a liability of N2.6 billion in fees and bursary from the Kwankwaso government.

He said: ”I assure you that our foreign scholarship will extremely depend on the demand of manpower.We will send people abroad for only highly skilled courses, otherwise we do not need to send students abroad for conventional courses like International Relations, Geography and History.

”What we have discovered is that some of the courses that are being undertaken abroad are not necessary because such courses exist here in Nigeria with much lower costs. 

”We are reforming the whole system so that we will make it more realistic. It is one thing to send those students abroad, it is another thing to get optimum benefit from what we are doing.

”Our internal students are also suffering because our money goes to foreign universities. Some of these foreign universities are even sub-standard.

”Executive secretary of the NUC had even cautioned us from the beginning that these universities in India, China and other European countries were substandard compared to some of our universities here.

”We are cautious of that, so we are reforming the system,” he concluded.
