Northern Youths Seek Reinstatement Of Suspended NHIS Boss

By Sunday Isuwa, Abuja

Northern Youth Development Association in the 19 states  has called on the Minister of Health to revert the suspension of National Health Insurance Scheme (NHIS) Executive Secretary, Professor Yusuf Usman.

According to the group, in a statement by its chairman, Imran Wada Nas said Nigeria will never progress if innocent and hardworking individuals are punished for only doing their jobs as expected of them.

According to the group, since the minister was not the person that appointed the NHIS Executive Secretary, then he has no right to fire or suspend him.

“The NHIS Executive Secretary position has a tenure which means that the minister ought to have known that he cannot just wake up and suspend the Executive Secretary because they had a disagreement.”

“This is why we are calling on the minister to peacefully reverse his decision on the NHIS Executive Secretary. As youths from the northern part of the country, we cannot fold our arms to watch our respected, incorruptible elder and a man of integrity being disgraced,” the statement said.

The youth leader also urged President Muhammadu Buhari and acting President Osinbajo to call the minister to order and to equally investigate his action against the suspended executive secretary.

“We are aware that they suspended Professor Yusuf Usman because he is a man of due process.  He is a man that always want to see things done in the right way and manner in conformity with the present administration’s fight against corruption.”

“ We are also not comfortable with the 12 man committee set up to investigate the NHIS Executive Secretary,” the statement added.
