A/Ibom governor inaugurates boards of three commissions

Governor Udom Emmanuel of Akwa Ibom State has inaugurated three commissions, The Law Reforms Commission, The Ethical and Attitudinal Re-orientation Commission (EARCOM), and The Akwa Ibom State Independent Electoral Commission (AKISIEC) with a charge for the members to remain focused and not to be distracted by criticisms.

Speaking at the inauguration ceremony, Emmanuel said that the members of the commissions were chosen based on merit drawing from their experiences and track records, stressing that a whole lot is on their shoulders and as such members of the commissions needed to deliver.

“I don’t know who will write that all these people we have chosen into these commissions do not deserve to be there. These are people of proven records, these are people we believe will deliver what will help the state to administer what we also expect,” the governor said.

“A lot of you are looking forward, if I want to use the tempo now in the state, I think a whole lot is expected from AKISIEC and I want to believe the man who chairs that commission had been in this saddle for 10 good years, so you can’t let us down. I am sure he would be able to deliver”

“The EARCOM woman is a lecturer of repute from the University of Uyo with all the members that you have seen there… people of impeccable character that have the moral standard to handle EARCOM.”

“Under Law Reforms Commission, I don’t know who else I could have chosen if I didn’t pick the chairman and all the members that you have there. All put together I can say, we have had quality in these appointments,” Governor Emmanuel said.

The governor noted that detractors would try to derail them from their duties, but he assured them of the cooperation of all ministries and parastatals in assisting them to do their work.

Reacting, the AKISIEC boss, Aniediabasi Ikoiwak, who spoke shortly after inauguration, said he and his team are ready for the task ahead of them.

“For now, I want to assure everybody as we have listened to His Excellency and we have also listened to what is expected of us, we will try our best to make sure that we do the best for the state,” he said.

Also speaking, the new chairman of the law reforms commission, Nse Ekanem said with his experience in the commission, he would complete the reforms he started in the commission.

Ekanem said some of the laws in the state are not coordinated and his commission would work towards harmonising and bringing them together.

On her part, the EARCOM boss, Dorathy Thompson promised to use her good offices to inspire people towards positive thinking in order to develop the state to the next level.
