Obaseki pledges free, fair council poll

Governor Godwin Obaseki of Edo State

Edo State Governor, Godwin Obaseki, has pledged to conduct free and fair council poll in the state. He gave the promise at Iguobazuwa, in Ovia South West Local Government Area, at the kick-off of campaigns for the March 3, 2018 election.Obaseki urged the candidates of the All Progressives Congress (APC) to work hard to justify the party’s victory.

According to him, the assurance became necessary because the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) had alleged that the results had already been written at the Government House in favour of the APC.

Obaseki who was represented by his Special Adviser on Political Matters, Osaro Idah, tasked candidates and members of the party to campaign hard to win the poll.On the threat by the PDP to boycott the election, the state Chairman of the APC, Anslem Ojezua, said: “For the PDP to say they are boycotting the local government election, it means it had signed its death certificate.

“Every politician knows that local government election is the most important in the lives of her people. For any political leader to say he would not contest in such election means that the party is selfish.”Ojezua described Ovia South West as the most gender-friendly local council area, having nominated three female chancellorship candidates.

Speaking on behalf of the candidates Destiny Enabulele, promised that they would not betray the confidence reposed in them.Meanwhile, Okpuje Patriots, at home and in the diaspora, have commended the governor for delivering on his campaign promises.

In the statement by its spokesperson, Dr. Monday Agbuku, they commended the governor for constructing the Okpuje road at Iuleha, in Owan West Local Government Area.“The governor has demonstrated in clear terms, that he is a man of his words. “We are exceedingly grateful to the government for this show of concern to our collective well being. He has, by this road, connected our people to the world,” he said.
